According to a report from the New York Times, left-wing political operatives and Hillary Clinton backers David Brock and Susie Tompkins Buell allegedly donated $700,000 to find people who would come forward with accusations of sexual misconduct against then-candidate Donald Trump before Election Day 2016.
Per the report, through his American Bridge 21st Century Foundation, Brock donated $200,000, and Susie Tompkins Buell, one of Brock’s major donors, donated $500,000…all to Lisa Bloom’s law firm, which specializes in sexual harassment allegations against public figures.
Additionally, Bloom’s firm then attempted to take advantage of the allegations it would receive against Trump by offering to sell them to media outlets for a handsome 33 percent commission.
In an interview with The Hill in December, Bloom, the daughter of lawyer Gloria Allred, admitted to contacting donors. However, even though Democrats familiar with Bloom’s operations told the Times that Brock and Buell were behind the donations, she would not release the identities of the donors.
Nevertheless, their crooked efforts failed, as practically no women were willing to come forward. One woman was reportedly willing to do so if she got paid $2 million, but ultimately, she never came forward with her story.
Furthermore, Bloom claims that most of the donor cash was refunded with the exception of some “out-of-pocket expenses” accrued from trying to prepare cases. She said that she did not receive any legal fees for the work, and that she did not communicate with Mrs. Clinton or her campaign “on any of this.”
“It doesn’t cost anything to publicly air allegations,” she said. “Security and relocation are expensive and were sorely needed in a case of this magnitude, in a country filled with so much anger, hate and violence.”
But Democrats familiar with the firm’s financial arrangements told a slightly different story, as they claim Bloom’s firm refunded Buell’s money, but pocketed the money from American Bridge.
Neither Brock nor Buell were willing to comment on their financial relationship with Bloom’s firm.
